The flash flood watch applies to all five boroughs, Fairfield County in southern Connecticut, and several counties in northeast New Jersey.

The East Lansing area was hit by a torrential downpour this afternoon, causing a number of safety hazards and floods. Up to 2 inches of rain per hour is possible.
According to the National Weather Service, 3.77 inches of rain fell at Lansing Capital Region worldwide Airport between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Joe Miketta, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s office in Mount Holly, said pretty much the whole state can expect some amount of precipitation.
Residents are being urged to monitor forecasts and prepare to take action if a flash flood warning is issued.

A mostly cloudy night is in store for the area with the low temperature expected to be about 61 degrees. Rain is expected to begin late tonight, around 3 a.m., with thunderstorms developing throughout the morning and into Tuesday afternoon.
