But none have rescinded their endorsement of Trump, and Rubio said he wouldn’t, either – underscoring the ambivalence of many Republicans toward their standard-bearer this year, but also the reluctance of some to do anything to benefit Clinton’s candidacy.

One of those sources, who has spoken on Trump’s behalf, said Trump should go further and apologize to “all military families”.

It’s just the latest Trump-created conundrum for Republican senators who need support from Trump’s enthusiastic backers to win re-election, but risk alienating moderate Republicans, independents, minorities and women if they embrace the GOP nominee too enthusiastically. “I said so last week, and he keeps on proving it”. Despite his disdain, Obama said Trump would get the top secret briefings on world crises and security threats to which he, Clinton and their respective vice presidential running mates are entitled.

The two have butted heads on the campaign trial before, with Trump suggesting that McCain should not be considered a war hero because he was captured, and the former presidential hopeful criticizing Trump’s attack on the Khan family.

He also charged that Trump, though his immigration proposals, is trying to “institutionalize discrimination based on religion”. “If they want to be president, they have to start acting like a president”.

The Republican challenging House Speaker Paul Ryan said this week that the U.S. should debate deporting all Muslims from the country.

“It is time for Donald Trump to set the example for our country and the future of the Republican Party”, McCain writes.

On Tuesday Obama questioned why leading Republicans have not withdrawn their support for their presidential nominee. John McCain. Said McCain: “While our party has bestowed upon (Trump) the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”.
