Patriots get offensive lineman Ryan Groy from Bears

Groy left camp late Monday morning to travel to Foxboro, Mass., where he must pass a standard physical before the trade is official.

Full terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, though ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss tweeted: “Patriots’ most recent roster moves geared toward fact preseason games about to begin; 24 players sidelined in last practice; depth needed”. In his four seasons with Mississippi State, Wells totaled 165 tackles with 1 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.

Though he showed some great skills, the Bears apparently did not think he was what they needed.

Groy, a second year man, signed with the Bears as an undrafted rookie free agent last season.

As of this moment, the top three guards for the team are Tre’ Jackson, Ryan Wendell, and Shaq Mason, but having someone to come in and get some extra reps for depth is very important. For the Bears, Wells provides another intriguing young piece at linebacker for Vic Fangio and the rebuilding Chicago defense. “That was the person I would reach out to, that was the person I would go to for advice and support and all that kind of stuff”, Groy said. “So that will definitely hurt every time I think about it”.
