It’s been a rough season for Mark Teixeira after what looked like a career revival in 2015.

Teixeira is in the eighth and final season of a $180 million contract he signed as a free agent in December 2008.

Tex was named to his third All-Star team and was enjoying a year worthy of MVP consideration prior to the leg injury, as he was hitting.255 with 31 home runs and 79 RBI in just 111 games.

He has battled injuries the past several years and is hitting just.198/.287/.340 with 10 homers and 27 RBI this season.

Teixeira, 36, is enduring a terrible season, due in part to a variety of ailments that have forced him to miss 31 games.

Entering Friday night’s game, Teixeira has a career.269 batting average, with 1,836 hits, 903 walks and 404 home runs. He excelled during his first season in NY, batting.292 with 39 homers and 122 RBI, finishing second in AL MVP voting. He was originally drafted fifth overall by the Rangers in 2011.

Teixeira is also regarded as one of the best defensive first basemen of his era, netting five Gold Gloves.

Teixeira won a World Series in 2009 – his first year with the Yankees after previously playing for the Rangers, Braves and Angels.
