Liverpool transfer News: 24-Year-old given 48 hours ultimatum to complete move

Liverpool’s out-of-favour striker Fabio Borini is closing in on a return to Italy, with Fiorentina hoping to complete a move for him within the next 48 hours, as per the Daily Express.

Other potential options include Javier Hernandez and Charlie Austin, but it is unlikely the club will be able to compete with some of the other clubs rumoured to be interested in the two.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Fiorentina have issued an ultimatum to Borini as they want to sign a quick replacement for Mario Gomez.

“There are several negotiations in progress, all with the consultation of coach (Paulo) Sousa”.

Liverpool are looking to recoup around £8million for Borini, who cost £10.5million from Roma in the summer of 2012.

Borini has struggled to settle at Anfield and has been short of first-team opportunities under Brendan Rodgers.

Borini then rejected a lucrative permanent move to Sunderland – despite enjoying a fruitful loan spell in the North East in 2013-14.

Having opted to stay put, Borini was restricted to just five starts in all competitions last season with his only goal coming at Villa Park in January.

That decision failed to pay off however, as he made just 12 league appearances for the Reds last season, while the summer arrivals of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, pushed him even further down the pecking order.
