With 58% of the votes tallied, the ANC held 52.7% of the tally, with the DA at 29.1%, and the EFF at 7.2%.
The DA also retained Ward 17 with 74.1 percent of votes cast, while the ANC was second with 12.85 percent and the Freedom Front Plus obtained 6.09 percent of the votes. The EFF in three wards (ward 115, 114 and 100) won more than 20 percent of captured votes.
By lunchtime, six seats in the local council had been decided, with the EFF winning Ward 24 with 46.52 percent against the ANC’s 40.24 percent while the Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) got 6.12 percent of the votes. In Tshwane, the DA was ahead with 48% of the vote to the ANC’s 39% with 25% of the vote counted.
The leading party now in the metro is the ANC, with 44.09 per cent of the support (306 155 votes), followed closely by the DA with 42.26 per cent of the support (293 449 votes).
Ward 50 has the ANC leading with 81.38 per cent, followed by the EFF on 9.54 per cent and the DA on 5.23 per cent.
However, it is unlikely that the EFF would go into a coalition with the ANC because the party has previously rejected the possibility.
Ward 51 has no results as yet.
