A Trump rally is the safest place in our country to be, believe me, believe me, right?

The Ad Hoc Committee to Say NO to Donald Trump had taken out a half-page ad Wednesday in the Portland Press Herald asking people to “Stand up for ME values”.

“Racism is not what we’re about in ME”, said Merle Nelson, 81, a former state representative from Portland, as she waved a sign at passing motorists.

Trump’s appearance attracted a large, vocal group of demonstrators, including a handful of African immigrants.

As the protesters held up the constitutions, Trump told them that they could “do whatever you want”, but the audience began to boo as they noticed what was happening.

It’s gotten so bad that several Republican leaders are reportedly considering an “intervention” with the candidate, hoping to wake him up and spark a permanent pivot to a more serious and measured candidate. A poll from the University of New Hampshire in late June showed Trump and Clinton running essentially neck-and-neck there, with Trump at 37 percent support and Clinton at 36 percent. “I think we are going to do well in Maine, you know, we’ll see”, he said.

Trump’s rally in this largely liberal city drew at least five other interruptions, including two people who tried to disrupt Trump’s speech with chants accusing him of being a racist.
