Villa begin life back in English football’s second tier with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday where McCormack could make his debut.

The 29-year-old Scotland worldwide striker has penned a four-year deal at the club and is in line to make his debut in their season-opener at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, who has scored twice in 14 caps for his country, joins the Villans after scoring 21 Championship goals for the Craven Cottage outfit last season.

“To think we’re sitting down in the Championship is not very good at the moment but there’s a mentality that’s growing”. I have had other options, as everyone knows, but I see this as an exciting project that I can help with.

Doubts over the future of Jordan Ayew has also led to Di Matteo taking action, and both Bamford and McCormack seem to be at the top of his striker wishlist. “He’s a player with proven track record and plenty of experience in the division”, said former Chelsea man Roberto Di Matteo, who took over as Villa manager this summer.
