Amid campaign turmoil, Trump allies urge him to get back on message

Last weekend, Pence, whose only son is a U.S. Marine, sought to quell the uproar Trump created by lashing out at Capt. Humayun Khan’s parents, who appeared at the Democratic convention and have criticized Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric.
This is not the first time Pence has broken protocol and expressed an opinion different from that of his running mate. Vin Weber, a former GOP congressman and Ryan ally, called Trump’s nomination “a mistake of historic proportions”.
He has skipped from one misstep to the next, sparking a fresh wave of Republican defections among longtime party loyalists who refuse to support their presidential nominee – including some who even publicly support for Democrat Hillary Clinton. Of course, it also seems ludicrous that a presidential candidate would get into a week-long fracas with the family of a soldier who died in Iraq. “He does support Paul Ryan”.
The Republican speaker has declared his support for Trump, but he said such endorsements aren’t “blank checks” and pledged to speak out against the businessman’s divisive positions if necessary.
The New York billionaire has cited a $400 million payment the US made to Iran this year, delivered on the same day that Iran released four American hostages.
The officials, including one with direct knowledge of Priebus’ thinking, were granted anonymity to discuss internal strategy because they were not authorized to discuss the sensitive issue during one of the most tumultuous weeks of Trump’s presidential campaign.
Other polls showed Trump down 11 percentage points to Clinton in Pennsylvania and 6 percentage points in Florida, two states that are important to his chances of winning the election.
NBC identified them as Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani and Republican National Committee Chair Rance Priebus. You tell me. Are these people that should be representing us, okay?
“Most candidates leave their conventions with a bit of a bump and do things that fuel that bump, that expands their base”, said Carter Wrenn, a veteran North Carolina Republican strategist.
John McCain – a day after the former prisoner of war said Trump did not have “unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”, and hours after Trump responded by telling The Washington Post he would not endorse McCain’s re-election. Third, he’s only trailing Hillary Clinton by six points or so, which means it’s entirely possible that he could stabilize his campaign and hope for some dramatic event (an alien invasion, perhaps) that changes the dynamic of the race and allows him to win. He said the campaign is “focused”, in “very good shape” and “moving forward”. He also insisted, “We’ve never been this united”. Reports that Trump repeatedly asked a foreign policy adviser during a briefing why the United States could not use its nuclear arsenal was first aired on an MSNBC TV show on Wednesday, adding weight to the growing chorus about the Republican nominee’s sense of responsibility. “You just hope he’ll have more days on message than days on consciousness”. The feud has overshadowed Trump’s criticism of Hillary Clinton.
That left many in the crowd of business leaders Trump will face backing his Republican rivals.
“The candidate is in control of his campaign”, campaign chairman Paul Manafort told the Fox News Network Wednesday afternoon, highlighting his inability to control the nominee.
“I have a thing”, he said.
“I really would like him to explain why he paid Chinese workers to make Trump ties”, she told employees in Denver, “instead of deciding to make those ties right here in Colorado”. Trump later lashed out at the media’s coverage of the controversy.

Concern about Trump has spilled into at least one congressional race.
