Rust is now his biggest problem and while it took hime three attempts to hit the 18th green as he played his 45th hole of practice at Whistling Straits yesterday, he’s confident he’ll be ready for his date with Johnson and the pretender to world No 1 throne, Jordan Spieth.

In an interview with ESPN, McIlroy said of his ankle: “To play golf, it’s 100 percent”. It wasn’t like I was trying to get back for this. “I just need to keep my body where it is now”.

The four-time major victor has been paired with Spieth and Zach Johnson for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday and is 29/20 to perform better than Spieth this week. “I was able to come over here, the course was closed to the public on August 1 and I was able to come out and play and nobody was out here”.

The last time the year’s final major was staged at Whistling Straits, in 2010, Oosthuizen arrived at the venue fresh from a commanding seven-stroke victory at the British Open but he went on to miss the cut after two “very nervous” opening rounds.

“I am very happy in my love life”, he said.

Now aged 30, he is much wiser and more careful with how he handles media and sponsors’ commitments as he heads back to the spectacular links-style layout that hugs the shores of Lake Michigan for the year’s final major championship. “The world No. 1 is the defending champion at the PGA, capturing his second Wanamaker last year at Valhalla in Kentucky”. Looks like she is helping him take a break from golf in Palm Beach after Wells Fargo Championship and World Golf Championship!

McIlroy opted not to defend his WGC Bridgestone Invitational Championship this past week but did play 90 holes in Portugal, where he was rehabbing. “Even if his game is intact, I just don’t know that the physical part of his ankle is going to hold up for the duration of 72 holes”.

Martin Laird, J.J. Henry and Sean O’Hair are the latest entries to the PGA Championship. Last year, being my first PGA Championship, I think I rushed a few shots.

Besides the hype of McIlroy saying he is ready to play, the golfing eyes are also on Tiger Woods.

According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Jordan Spieth is favored to win this tournament, as he has odds of +550 to win. “I found a shortcut and I can save about 10 minutes and actually get here in about 45 minutes”.

However, he has returned in double-quick time and is clearly eager to add a fifth major to his haul in the coming week.
