It should be recalled that the president has been reportedly considering various ways of cutting down on the cost of government in Nigeria.
This is a clear departure from the previous practice where the Federal Government would appoint high profile people as members of its delegation to Hajj, thus wasting millions of tax payers’ money.
President Muhammad Buhari has revealed that the Federal Government will not be playing a part in this year’s Muslim Hajj pilgrimage.
He reassured the pilgrims that the government would not fail in its obligations to the citizens on pilgrimage in spite of the absence of a government delegation.
Buhari clarified that the decision will however not prevent the government from play its traditional roles of providing consular, medical and security services to Nigerian pilgrims, Vanguard reports.

“The states can deal with that (appointment of their hajj delegations), but this, year at the centre, we will not be involved”, Shehu quoted the president as saying.
