Ball was accused of throwing his girlfriend at a Madison hotel on February 5. About a month later, a previous girlfriend told police she had been assaulted by Ball in 2014.

Ball is now receiving alcohol counseling and will also undergo a certified domestic abuse treatment program.

Police said in the February incident the woman’s leg hit the corner of a table, causing a cut that required stitches.

“I know that you’ve received trophies and scholarships for pounding people on the gridiron”, Dane County Circuit judge William E. Hanrahan said in sentencing Ball, according to the Journal Sentinel.

Former Bronco Montee Ball was arrested on a charge of substantial battery.

He appeared Friday in Dane County Court.
