Safety, our top priority, is now compromised. The assault rifles raised alarm with protesters, but the group of men claimed to be there simply to “keep the peace”, which is one of the main goals outlined on their website. “Participants are now unlawfully assembled”, the department tweeted.
However, others seethed as word spread that police had arrested a 12-year-old girl.
This story has been corrected to show that Harris was shot by a county police officer in Ferguson, not a Ferguson police officer.
For the second continuous night, black lives matter protesters flooded the streets in protest of perceived racial injustice and police abuse.

His comments came after a state of emergency was imposed in St Louis County in Ferguson following standoff between police and protesters leading to several arrests.
“Ferguson was a watershed moment in policing”.
Later Monday, activists targeted the St. Louis County headquarters of Enterprise Holdings, the nation’s largest vehicle rental company, to protest the work of the Keefe Group, a subsidiary that stocks prison commissaries where inmates can buy snacks, clothing, toiletries, prepaid telephone calling cards and other items.
Among those detained during a sit-in outside a federal courthouse in St. Louis was Princeton University professor and activist Cornel West, who recently completed a speaking tour of Australia.
At least nine protesters were arrested from Monday night into Tuesday morning for attempting to block a roadway, according to St. Louis County police. I have plenty to live for. Protesters later blocked a cross-country thoroughfare – Interstate 70 – during the evening rush hour and eventually regrouped in Ferguson at night. The violence set Ferguson on edge and had protest leaders anxious that tensions could escalate.
The St. Louis suburb thoroughfare was the focus of months of massive protests and sometimes violent unrest last summer after the killing of Brown by a Ferguson police officer.
The alleged gunman, 18-year-old Tyrone Harris of St. Louis, is hospitalised in critical condition and in police custody.
Police say gunfire broke out between two groups of agitators and that one man, 18 year-old Tyrone Harris, opened fire on officers and was subsequently shot and critically wounded. Brian Schellman said.
When the officers got out of their vehicle, they said he started shooting at them again, so they returned fire, hitting him several times.
Harris is being held on a $250,000 bond, Schellman said.
St Louis County Police Department took to Twitter to describe the situation. He was “running for his life” like everyone else when the gunfire began.
Authorities said Tyrone Harris Jr was wounded during a gun battle with plainclothes officers on Sunday night as demonstrators marked the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death.
However, Chief Belmar says that police had been keeping an eye on the younger Mr. Harris throughout the night because they suspected he was armed.

The move authorises Chief Belmer to take command of police emergency management in and around Ferguson. McGuire also said that there were no shots fired and no burglaries, looting or property damage during the protest. “The way the police will respond now will be much more militaristic”.
