LB Lavonte David, Buccaneers agree to 5-year, $50.25 million contract extension

David, who is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, was a second-round pick in 2012. But that didn’t keep Bucs general manager Jason Licht or David’s agent, Ron Butler, from strongly suggesting that a deal would get done in due time.

“He told me he loved me“, Lynette David said, tears streaming down her cheeks. “This extension is a prime example of our desire to reward the types of players who will play a key role in helping us achieve long-term success”.

David, 25, was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round (58th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He earned the Seminoles a berth into the first-ever College Football Playoff, but, in an unexpected rout, the Seminoles lost to the Oregon Ducks 59-20 for their only loss that season and Winston’s only one as a starter in his career. Coach Lovie Smith has said David is the best outside linebacker in the game.

Lavonte David isn’t fazed by heightened expectations that’ll come with being one of the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL. “Soccer is what has gotten me by means of loads of issues in my life”.

“They know I really like the sport of soccer, and there is nothing that is going to maintain me from enjoying”, David informed the Occasions two weeks in the past.

David led the Buccaneers with 101 tackles in 2014, and was a first-team All-Pro linebacker in 2013. In nine NFL seasons, he has played in 111 games with 34 starts, totaling 212 tackles, 10.5 sacks, nine passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy signed a seven-year, $95.2 million extension in October that includes $51 million guaranteed, so the nucleus of the team’s defense is in place for another six seasons. With so much uncertainty surrounding Akeem Spence’s availability this season after undergoing back surgery in early July, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were missing a big part of their rotational defensive tackle depth.
