His bond is set at $1,750. His blood alcohol content was measured at.119, far over the legal limit of.08. As of 8:30 a.m., Higgins had not posted bail.

“We are aware of the situation involving Ryan Higgins”.

Lousiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz released a statement shortly after Higgins’ arrest was made public. Williams said Higgins’ BAC was recorded after he was transported to the detention center and before he was booked, but it’s unclear what time Higgins’ submitted the breath sample.

Higgins served as the primary backup to Jeff Driskel a season ago and was in line to be the team’s starter for Week 1, but that is now obviously in question.

The Bulldogs kickoff their 2016 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3 against the Arkansas Razorbacks. While Higgins’ punishment is unknown at this time, missing any playing time could be a huge hurt to Louisiana Tech’s offense this year. Redshirt sophomore Price Wilson finished spring practice as the No. 2 quarterback, but Holtz said the competition to be the backup to Higgins was open.
