It’s finally here! After months of waiting, fans at Comic-Con International were finally treated to their first-look at Marvel’s Luke Cage series that’s slated to hit Netflix later this year.

During the Netflix panel, executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker emphasized Luke Cage’s importance, both then and now.

The renewal announcement was made yesterday at San Diego Comic Con during the first-ever Netflix and Marvel panel. With such an extensive slate of upcoming Marvel television shows, it’s likely that the popularity of the comic book adaptations are driving significant subscriber growth for the streaming video company. At the same time, Luke Cage has a totally different energy from Jessica Jones or Matt Murdock, and the music and rhythm of the trailer make Luke Cage feel different from those other series.

The Game of Thrones grad stars as Daniel Rand, aka Iron Fist.

Set to Old Dirty Bastard’s “Like it Raw”, in the trailer, Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, unhinges a vehicle door to fight, sandwich and shield against the bad guys.

Marvel’s The Defenders will premiere all Season 1 episodes sometime in 2017 on Netflix. “Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny”. It’s highly unlikely that we’d see anything before 2016 comes to an end, but a March/April release seems more feasible, as has been the case for its first two seasons.
