‘Squad’ goals? Harley could come out on top in ’16

Thinking of going to see Suicide Squad this weekend but put off by all the bad reviews?

And thus the “suicide squad” is born, comprising some of DC Comics” most famous bad guys: crack assassin Deadshot (Will Smith), femme fatale Harly Quinn (Margot Robbie), risky “Captain’ Boomerang (Jai Courtney), flesh-eating Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), fire-manipulating El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), messed-up Slipnot (Adam Beach), powerful sorceress Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) and expert martial artist Katana (Karen Fukuhara).

For the most part the film does well with its characters. Also, one member of the Squad-we won’t say who, but it’s the one who’s barely in the ads-meets his end in the exact same way that he does in the old Suicide Squad comics. It was enjoyable seeing the characters on screen and interacting with each other, and one of the best scenes of the film may be a simple bar scene where the squad takes a breather and has a brief conversation in between fights. I mean, it’s fun to learn about Amanda and Bruce’s relationship. “It takes over your life and that’s what I needed to do for myself”. Will Smith and Margot Robbie give stand out performances along with Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.

Negative reviews for the film have been pouring it at such a rate that fans of the film launched a petition to close down review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes in an attempt to prevent people from seeing them. I think they did overuse songs in the film though, sometimes cutting between three different songs in five minutes.

Speaking on the red carpet earlier this week about the role, the actor said: “I have never played a baddie before”. All the while, their mission becomes that much more hard when they are attacked by the diabolical Joker. However, it turns out that the controversial director did get behind the camera for a brief moment for the latest film to direct one key scene.

Best is Jared Leto as the green-haired, metal-mouthed Joker, although he’s not quite on par with Heath Ledger’s definitive portrayal.

Marvel Studios movies and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy have spoiled audiences by combining quality storytelling, great action and compelling characters.

Much like Batman v Superman, this movie could have been phenomenal but unfortunately I think they rushed into it too quickly.

“This (being a celebrity) is the type of thing that, no matter how cool you think you are, your kids think you suck”, laughed the star.
