Health officials said there have been no confirmed cases of locally transmitted Zika virus in Louisiana.
Though the state reports eight cases of travel-related Zika, New Hampshire is considered a Zika safe zone.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a travel warning Monday advising pregnant women and their partners to avoid a community near Miami where the virus is spreading. Those who have traveled/lived in the area since June 15 (based on the earliest time symptoms can start and the maximum 2-week incubation period for Zika virus) should take note of this alert.
“These cases emphasize the most severe risks of Zika infection, which will result in mild, if any, symptoms for the vast majority of people”.
“We have been taking proactive steps for months to help mitigate the threat of Zika and other mosquito-borne illnesses in the continental United States and overseas”, a Pentagon statement said.
Outside the medical center, more pregnant women who were visiting the clinic said they felt nervous about their unborn children.
But since the Director of Public Health in our area has been in her position she says there’s never been a Zika case for our area.
The Texas Panhandle now has two confirmed cases of the Zika virus.
Global health officials have found a connection between pregnant women contracting the virus and a birth defect called microcephaly in their newborn infants.
“But as I said, the primary cause of microcephaly is the virus infecting a woman during her pregnancy”, Fauci said.
Individuals who wish to obtain more information are asked to call the Ministry of Health or the nearest health centre.

There are no species of mosquitoes capable of transmitting the Zika virus in IL, officials said, meaning people with the virus contracted it outside of the state. Everyone travelling to Zika-affected areas should take measures to prevent infection by mosquitoes, to include avoiding outdoor exposure, using EPA-approved insect repellent, wearing loose-fitting clothing that covers arms and legs and pre-treatment of clothing with permethrin, if possible. “But mostly, we want them to do that because of the West Nile virus”, said Dr. Arwady. Then, they spread it to someone else when they bite again.
