Carlos Sanchez, 40, who lived across the street from the family, recalled once finding the oldest child, 13-year-old Nathaniel, after dark on a street in the neighborhood. The bodies were found inside the home following the arrest of David Conley, who exchanged gunfire with police, Texas authorities said Sunday. “And I just started crying right there”. “There are many questions waiting to be answered, including how the suspect -who police say has a criminal past and could very likely have been a prohibited purchaser – got his hands on a gun”, Gross said. “(Conley) was already in a different world”.

Deputies were called to the home about 9 p.m. Saturday to perform the welfare check, Harris County Sheriff spokesman Thomas Gilliland told KHOU-TV (http://bit.ly/1HyVKtb ).

The man charged with killing six children and a couple at their home in a Houston suburb had a previous relationship with the woman he is accused of killing, and at least one of the murdered children was likely his own, authorities said Sunday. His court appointed attorney, Joseph Scardino, didn’t return a phone call seeking comment. Authorities said Conley handcuffed the family and shot each of them execution style. They include, Valerie Jackson, her husband Dwayne Jackson, 50, Dwayne Jackson, Jr., 10, Nathaniel Jackson, 13, Honesty Jackson, 11, Caleb Jackson, 9, Trinity Jackson, 7, and Jonah Jackson, 6.

The area around the home was still cordoned off Sunday morning, with sheriff’s deputies coming in and out of the house and the medical examiner’s office having arrived at the scene.

Conley slipped into the home through a window, tied up eight people – Jackson, her husband, and the six children – and shot them all in the head, according to the indictment.

Most of Conley’s assault charges heavily involved 40-year-old Valerie Jackson, who was his former domestic partner. In 2013, Conley was charged with aggravated assault for threatening Jackson with a knife. Gilliland said he’s being kept away from other inmates in the Harris County Jail because he’s considered a high-profile inmate. The two married in 1986, she said.
