The 27-year-old point guard was not set to become a free agent until next year, but apparently his mind was made up.

It’s worth mentioning, Andre Iguodala said in a recent interview he thought Oklahoma City had the better team in the Western Conference Finals. The announcement of the contract extension has virtually lain to rest any trade rumors surrounding Russell Westbrook.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Westbrook and the Thunder have gained “momentum toward a three-year, $85 million-plus maximum contract renegotiation agreement”. By the time this extension is up, Westbrook will have played ten years in the National Basketball Association.

The 6-foot-2 guard played for CEZ Nymburk in the Czech Republic last season, averaging 12.8 points and 20.6 minutes.

The Oklahoma City have already lost Kevin Durant for in the free agency this offseason to Golden State Warriors and Presti will never let that happen again to Westbrook.

Fr now, both he and Thunder seem to be going all in. The Thunder is still a playoff contender and fans should expect Russell Westbrook to be a strong MVP candidate.

Thursday was a massive day for the Oklahoma City Thunder organization. Some people and critics argued on Westbrook being Batman, while Durant is Robin. Westbrook said Durant’s departure opened the door for his own extension with the Thunder. We definitely will talk eventually, but obviously now we haven’t. “But I’ll see when this is over and when everything dies down”.

Asked if he was happy for Westbrook, Durant said he was. I can not wait for the Thunder vs. Warriors game in OKC, which will be filled with drama, energy, and competitiveness. “I don’t have no beef with anybody or no ill will on anybody”. There’s no ill will with anybody. “So if he did want he wanted to do, that’s great for him”.

Westbrook said Durant gave him no indication he would leave the team. He would then earn the max the next two seasons if he exercises the third-year option. If he, Durant, James Harden and Serge Ibaka couldn’t get it done what makes one think the current roster will be able to pull it off?
