Carr Breaks Hand, Bryant Out With Hamstring Strain

Lawrence has been working with the first team as an edge rusher on the left side. The players were off on Friday, and Carr was on the field for Saturday’s walk-through.

“It’s going on to varying degrees across the league”, executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones said Sunday.

Carr said it felt like “I cracked my knuckles”, but didn’t realize how serious the injury was until the practice was over.

And both coaches agreed that joint workouts hold great value in helping to prepare a team for the start of the season. “But the two days that we were together there, we got a lot of situational work. Being in the hotel as a team, there’s some bonding that goes on there, too“. Defensive back Brandon Carr needed to undergo surgery to fix his hand’s broken bone, and he could miss the preseason game even though the injury won’t force him to miss much time.

The procedure is scheduled this Monday, but Dallas head coach Jason Garett said there was no definite timetable yet on how long the seven-year pro will be sidelined before he can return to the field.

Carr of course is one of the top paid players among his position in the game but has failed to live up to his end of the bargain when the Dallas Cowboys signed him in 2012.

“They’re managing the load, and they’re trying to progress me a certain way”, Lee said via The Dallas Morning News.

With Bryant unlikely to play and Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley figuring to get limited snaps against San Diego because of their growing value, undrafted rookie free agent Lucky Whitehead will get a chance to follow up on a strong start to camp.

Bryant suffered the injury, a mild hamstring strain, during an afternoon practice session on Thursday. The defending NFC East champs are looking to continue the success they had last year and make a run to Super Bowl 50, while the Chargers are hoping to rebound from a poor finish to last season that kept them out of the playoffs for a fourth time in five years.
