Cleveland Indians acquire Andrew Miller in trade with New York Yankees
The Cleveland Indians acquired left-handed All-Star reliever Andrew Miller from the New York Yankees on Sunday in a five-player trade to bolster their bullpen. That trade is still pending physicals and Lucroy waiving his no-trade clause.

If Bryan Shaw can avoid his occasional bad outing, the Indians will have a 7-8-9 punch of Shaw, Miller and Allen that can make any lead heading into the seventh inning a unsafe one.
The Indians got Miller through from the New York Yankees for four prospects namely outfielder Clint Frazier and pitchers Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller, and J.P. Feyereisen.
Miller brings with his a career average of 4.35 ERA with 46 SV and 667 SO and 1.43 walks and hits per inning pitched. The 22nd round pick is widely considered to have the best fastball in the Indians’ minor league system and tops out around triple digits.
“I’m still trying to get over the fact that we traded the best of the best”, Betances said, according to ESPN’s Wallace Matthews.
“When you are dealing with life-changing, life-altering decisions like this, there are a lot of factors that come into play, mostly family”, he said before the Brewers’ 4-2 win over the Pirates.
McCann’s name surfaced in trade talks with the Braves on Saturday, but he didn’t address it then or Sunday.
Cashman all but admitted the Yankees were slow to adapt.
I loved my time here. During his one and one-half years with NY, he has struck out 177 batters in 107 innings. I like the guys here. “It’s certainly a time I’ll look back on fondly”. “And the present hasn’t been going as well as I expected”.
The Indians are also feeding off a positive vibe in the city started when the Cavaliers, their next-door-neighbors in Gateway Plaza, won the National Basketball Association championship last month to end Cleveland’s 52-year title drought.
The first order of business when Miller arrives will be for manager Terry Francona to decide how he is going to use him. “[We] needed to have an extreme return for us to complete and finalize, which we felt we…we’re very excited by what we got”. “We knew what was at stake and we just didn’t get it done”.
Which other Yankees do you think will no longer be on the team as of 4pm? They didnt go halfway.
“They had it going pretty good”, Miller said. Theres no better message..
“We’re thrilled about the acquisition of Andrew”, Antonetti said of the 2016 All-Star, who is 6-1 with a 1.39 ERA and nine saves in 44 games, while striking out 77 batters over 45 1/3 innings. Duke, in the second year of a three-year, $15 million contract, is joining his seventh team. He now owns the sixth-lowest relief ERA.
Francona is probably being diplomatic until he meets with both Miller and Shaw.
Adding onto the bounty for Chapman, which included two top 100 prospects and one in the top 25 (on most evaluation lists), NY struck again, dealing Miller, acquiring: Elite outfield prospect, Clint Frazier, lefty starter Justus Sheffield and a pair of relievers in J.P Feyereisen and Ben Heller. Sheffield is a left-hander. The Indians also said they could not guarantee that LUCROY would be the starting catcher.
The Brewers and Indians had agreed on a trade Saturday night that would have sent Lucroy to the Indians in exchange for four prospects.
“He’s the ideal guy to have and we got him”, Indians closer Cody Allen said before the club’s series finale with Oakland.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
New York Yankees RHP Dellin Betances said he was shocked after the organization traded closer and LHP Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
