Donald Trump endorses House Speaker Paul Ryan, ending a four-day standoff

In a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Friday night, Trump read his endorsement off a sheet of paper, saying: “In our shared mission to make America great again I support and endorse our Speaker of the House Paul Ryan”. The problem for Republicans is that the only way that they may keep the Senate is if voters split their ballots by voting against Trump, but for their incumbent Republican senator. Trump said in the same interview that McCain had not done enough for veterans and criticized Ayotte for distancing herself from him during the campaign.

“The effect Trump is having on down-ballot races has the potential to be devastating in November”, said another. “He responded just as Mr Putin had calculated”.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump (R) and vice presidential candidate Mike Pence speak in an overflow room at a campaign event in Roanoke, Virginia, U.S. July 25, 2016.

On the campaign trail this week, the Republican nominee has been dramatically describing a video he says shows the USA paying off Iran as part of a deal to release U.S. sailors from Iranian custody, but there is no evidence such a tape exists.

Trump’s campaign said his economic advisory panel included former steel executive Dan DiMicco; Howard Lorber, CEO of tobacco company Vector Group Ltd; and Trump campaign finance chairman and investment manager Steven Mnuchin.

That comment was branded false by Washington-based fact-checkers, but Mrs Clinton doubled down Friday, while admitting some of her answers may have been less than clear. “I like people who weren’t captured”.

“I’ve noticed you’ve been softening up on Trump’s words and policies”.

Meanwhile, Clinton has widened her lead over Trump in several states, including battlegrounds like New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Colorado, according to polls in those states. In only in one of the surveys has Clinton’s lead actually increased when Johnson and Stein are included. Ted Cruz, and his enduring friction with GOP leaders there does not bode well for him in what is already one of the toughest presidential battleground states for any Republican.

Trump has been expressing his outrage about a $400-million (360-million-euro) payment the U.S. made to Iran earlier this year, which was delivered on the same day Iran released four Americans they had detained.

“He has cheated contractors, and I take that personally”.

The White House has insisted the payment had nothing to do with the release of the hostages. If elected, she would be the first woman president of the United States.

Pence chose to endorse the Wisconsin Republican, while Trump declined.

On Tuesday, Trump told the Post that Ayotte had given him “no support – zero support”, later adding “We need loyal people in this country”.

“If you don’t like me, that’s okay, vote for Pence, because it’s the same thing”, he said.
