New York Yankees trade Aroldis Chapman to Chicago Cubs for prospects

Speculation circulated Monday morning that one reason why the teams had not announced the trade earlier was because the Cubs were attempting to sign Chapman to a long-term deal.

The Chicago Cubs, looking to shore up their pitching staff for a stretch run into the playoffs, are closing in on a trade with the New York Yankees that would bring Aroldis Chapman to the Windy City, according to multiple reports. It is a privilege to wear the Cubs uniform and to play for the fans of Chicago. Like actually going for it this year.

The Yanks still would have two All-Star relievers in their bullpen without Chapman in Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances, but getting an A-ball prospect wouldn’t help them this year. Chapman will hit free agency following the 2016 Major League Baseball season and there is a chance that he will leave. It would not surprise me if this deal was contingent on Chapman agreeing to a long-term contract though.

Chapman has been the definition of dominant over his entire career.

Chapman fills a big need for the Cubs, as they lacked a late inning left-handed option. He threw a 105.1 miles per hour fastball to Baltimore’s J.J. I repeat, his fastball is averaging 100.1 miles per hour this year.

Chapman, a left-hander known for a fastball that can reach 105 miles per hour, is one of the biggest names rumored to be on the trading block.

“I think most of you guys would be excited if he gets traded”. Baseball America ranked Torres, 19, as the Cubs’ top prospect, and among the 30 best in the minor leagues. He shows great plate discipline and maturity that is well beyond his years.

“I want to thank the New York Yankees for trusting and supporting me, and I wish nothing but the best for the Yankees organization and my former teammates”, Chapman said.

McKinney, 21, was MLB.com’s No. 88 prospect. The Yankees are taking a flier on McKinney and hoping that he is a buy-low candidate and can rejuvenate his game with a change of scenery.

Flipping Chapman for a top prospect, a reliable and versatile big-league pitcher and, in effect, Castro – who was acquired for Warren in the offseason – is a smart move by the Yankees. He struggled while he was with the Cubs, but Warren did show some promise over the past few years with the Yankees. In 2015, he threw 131.1 innings, with a 3.29 ERA, 104 strikeouts, and 39 walks.

Making his second start following a brief bullpen banishment, Eovaldi used a new cutter for the second time in the homestand.

Overall, this trade is a win-win for both sides.

The Chicago Cubs are the best team in the MLB right now as they are sitting pretty with a league-best record of 59-38.

The Cubs’ prospects for winning their first World Series in over a century look brighter than ever thanks to a plethora of young-talent, and it seems as though Theo Epstein and Co. are going all-in.

Could the Yankees trade Beltran?

Like other Yankees, McCann has been hoping management his club’s recent hot streak – they’ve won nine of their last 14 – would lead to the roster not torn apart before August 1.
