North had left them in the back of his SUV, according to police.

“We do believe they were left in the vehicle for a period of time, ” Carrollton Police Capt. Chris Dobbs told CNN, referring to the twins.

Dobbs said alcohol could have played a part. Police also took an uncle, Travis North, to the hospital due to “extreme intoxication”.

It isn’t immediately clear if North has an attorney. By this date in 2015, 12 children had died in hot cars, Fennell said in an email on Thursday night. The trial is expected to begin in September.
