Paul Nehlen, Ryan’s Republican primary challenger, said in a statement that Trump’s endorsement is “appropriate and is a display of true leadership”.

Earlier Friday Ryan brushed off speculation Trump would need to be replaced on the ballot and said it was his “duty” to uphold the results of the GOP primary. But Vos, too, was skipping the Trump rally on Friday. John McCain and Kelly Ayotte – after initially declining to do so and in the case of McCain, assailing him repeatedly.

The same poll showed 42 percent of New Hampshire voters had a favorable view of Ayotte, compared to 38 percent who had an unfavorable opinion. Trump shocked Republican leaders yet again this week when he refused to declare support for Ryan, instead stating that “I’m just not there yet”.

Ryan reiterated his stance Friday that “With any endorsement of anybody, there’s never a blank check”.

Actually, the referenced Meet the Press interview with Trump had taken place nine months earlier (on 4 October 2015), just four months after the business magnate announced his candidacy, well before any primary elections had been held, and long before either major party had selected a nominee.

Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton “dumb” on Friday for saying the United States should defend allies under military attack by Russian Federation or North Korea even if they have failed to pay in full for US protection.

The campaign guru also criticized Mr. Obama’s insistence that Mr. Trump should act more presidential on the campaign trail.

“I look forward to supporting Republican candidates in the days and weeks ahead all over the country, and so does Donald Trump”, the GOP vice presidential nominee told reporters while flying to a campaign stop in Virginia.

“If Hillary Clinton becomes president”, he told a rally in Iowa, “you will have really, in my opinion, the destruction of this country from within”.

At a time when critics charge that Trump lacks the temperament needed for a commander in chief, he also alleged that Clinton was “unbalanced” and “pretty close to unhinged”.

“In one way, she’s a monster”, he said in Wisconsin. In another way, she’s a weak person.

Ryan, who has criticized aspects of Trump’s campaign, replied that his endorsement of the NY businessman is not a blank check, and “if I see and hear things that I think are wrong, I’m not going to sit by and say nothing”.

She also acknowledged that many people do not trust her. She added, “I’m going to work my heart out in this campaign and as president to produce results for people”.

He added that while they “may disagree on a couple of things”, they agree on a lot as well.
