Three days after the body of a minor was found under a bridge in Banki area of Cuttack district, the police Friday arrested the driver and conductor of a bus in connection with the horrific rape and murder of the teenage girl.

The body of the girl has been recovered below Jatamundia Bridge over river Mahanadi on the outskirts of Banki on Wednesday morning with a deep wound on her forehead, police said. Suspecting foul play in the girl’s death, police started a probe.
After ascertaining that the victim was a native of Athagarh, police zeroed in on the bus driver, who allegedly had an affair with the girl. After completing his duty, Santosh used to park the bus in an isolated place at Ratagarh and the duo used to spent time together. She was in love with the bus driver Santosh Sahu for the last two years.
Since the young woman insisted for marriage, Santosh hatched up a plan to bump her off. They had a fight as the girl again asked him to marry her.

According to sources, the victim from Gourangpur in Athgarh was abducted in a bus and was raped and murdered at Ratagarh. As the accused were well aware of the place, they planned to dump the body into Mahandi so that it will flow away. After disposing the body, the accused had cleaned the bus.
