According to Director of the provincial Department of Health Nguyen Thi Mong Ngoc, the province has not recorded any other Zika infection in the 28 days since the patient first showed symptoms.

“To date, we’ve had no positives for Zika virus”, she said.

Pregnant women are being advised not to visit the city.

So far, the almost 1,700 Zika infections reported in the United States mainly have been linked to travel to countries with Zika outbreaks in Latin America or the Caribbean.

The mosquitoes have a short travel range, and Florida officials are describing the infections as a “small case cluster” that do not indicate widespread transmission.

What’s more, the Olympics are taking place during Brazil’s winter, which means the mosquito season in Rio will have wound down for the games, she added.

The CDC advises pregnant women not to travel to an area where active Zika transmission is ongoing, and to use insect repellent and wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts if they are in those areas.

“Their infrastructure is such that they don’t have a sophisticated Department of Health, as you would find in some of the more developed countries”.

Only four countries – Chad, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Yemen – will have a large enough increase in air travel from Rio this month to warrant concern regarding Zika, the CDC found.

Most travelers will be staying in screened and air-conditioned lodgings, further reducing their potential exposure to mosquitoes.

Health authorities said at a press conference that the mothers contracted the disease while pregnant and traveling in countries where the virus is prevalent.

Recreational water around Rio is polluted with untreated sewage from outflows, posing a risk to competitors in boating or open-water swimming events at Guanabara Bay or the Lagoa de Freitas, the World Health Organization has said.

The Indiana State Department of Health believes it is a travel-related case of Zika, according to a news release.

President Barack Obama has asked Congress to allocate $1.9 billion to combat the Zika threat, but federal lawmakers have yet to act on the request.

Florida began aerial spraying on Thursday to kill mosquitoes in a Miami neighborhood with the first USA spread of the Zika virus that can cause a rare but devastating birth defect.

Frieden says Miami’s infections were limited to a 500-square-foot area in the Wynwood neighborhood.

If any Zika symptom is detected, they need to immediately visit a hospital for screening and treatment.

Dr. Tom Frieden head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended Zika testing for all pregnant women who have traveled since June 15 to the one-square-mile zone near Miami where mosquitoes have likely spread the virus locally
