Corbyn pledges to create one million jobs

Father-of-two Bobby Smith and his longtime stunt-collaborator Martin Matthews unfurled banners on Corbyn’s roof saying they wanted to grab the opposition leader’s attention.

“People see in Corbyn a new form of politics, where people care for the poor and downtrodden”, said Philip John Rosser, a 61-year-old former lecturer attending the hustings in Cardiff in Wales.

He spoke to hundreds of supporters at a rally in Merthyr Tydfil’s Penderyn Square, the scene of the start of the 1831 Merthyr Rising.

Mr McDonnell said there had been a “pressurised” discussion with a group of MPs and he had “immediately” put out a statement saying he did not support a split.

“Yes, we are having a leadership campaign and that has probably damaged, temporarily, Labour support”, he said.

The battle for control of the party has exposed long-standing fault lines over Labour’s core values, and led to fears that it could split, with Smith warning this week that it was “teetering on the brink of a precipice”. We’ve got the event today in Merthyr and were going on to Swansea this evening.

Angry protesters scaled the roof of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s home to stage a demonstration for fathers’ rights.

Cut income and wealth inequality: make a progressive tax system so highest earners are “fairly taxed”, shrink the gap between the highest and lowest paid.

In fact, Labour won no extra seats at the May poll, and lost Rhondda to Plaid Cymru.

The response was markedly watered down from Mr McDonnell’s previous claim that the suggestion was “complete rubbish”.

THE St Helens No1 UD 431 Branch of the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) has members in both St Helens constituencies.

Corbyn’s vision for the United Kingdom economy was released ahead of last night’s debate against leadership challenger Owen Smith, who resigned from his position as Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary in June in order to stand against Corbyn for leadership of the party.

Corbyn’s rival, Owen Smith, has also pledged a substantial spending increase, including a “British New Deal” of £200bn worth of investment over five years, including substantial commitments to investment in the north of England, and major house-building and infrastructure projects.

The result of the leadership contest will be announced at a Labour conference on September 24th.

Jeremy Corbyn’s office has been contacted for comment.

Corbyn’s backers have argued that trying to replace him has diverted the party from directing its efforts at challenging the Conservative Party and holding the Government to account.

“Owen Smith offers an agenda that is as radical as it is pragmatic”.

Rejecting the idea that the markets would take fright at more borrowing, he said: “It would barely spook the markets if virtually every single independent economic adviser has provided that advice to the government and other European capitals…” He stressed that “we’re staying up here until we’ve got our message across, we’re not going to be intimidated by them and hopefully Jeremy Corbyn will get the message”.

“Jeremy Corbyn’s 10 pledges to rebuild and transform Britain resonate with a generation facing a future of precarious work, student debts and a lack of housing”.
