Rare Superman comic sells for nearly $1 million

A rare copy of the comic in which Superman made his debut made a whopping $956,000 (Thats around Rs 1,400,00,00). Certified Guaranty Co. had graded this copy a 5.5 on a scale of 1-10, which we hope means it was well read enjoyed by fans before becoming an investment.

The comic had been expected to sell for about $750,000.

Heritage told the news agency that the unnamed seller had bought the comic in the 1990s for US$26,000. Spokesman Eric Bradley says the winning bidder also did not wish to be identified.

There are thought to be only about 100 extant copies of Action Comics No. 1, which Heritage boasts as “the most important comic book ever published”.

“This Action No. 1 is one of the best looking among the remarkably rare pool of unrestored copies in the world”, said Matt Nelson, primary grader of CGC, in a statement, noting that the mid-grade rating doesn’t reflect its fine overall appearance. Failing that, they compiled a number of the strips together into a comic book and shopped it around to publishers, eventually landing at the publisher which would later come to be known as DC Comics.

Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who originally had hoped to sell the character as a comic strip.
