“I don’t think a rally of this magnitude has ever happened in our nation. She, however, would require physiotherapy for the shoulder to heal better”, he added.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who fell ill during a roadshow in Varanasi on Tuesday, is stable and recovering at a city hospital here.

Officially, the Congress too described her condition as stable and has said that she was recovering under medical supervision. Defence minister Manohar Parrikar and Army chief General Dalbir Singh visited her.

During the day, she led a huge procession of her party supporters through the streets of Varanasi, a district represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India’s Parliament. PM Modi wished get well soon to Ms Gandhi.

Senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had yesterday informed the media that she suffered a bout of “dehydration, vomited and had high fever”, which made her cancel the road show.
