WATKINS GLEN, NY (AP) – Joey Logano had enough fuel this time

“Obviously, we raced here at The Glen and at Holland and Adirondack” Speedway, “which are all good race tracks”.

It looked like it was just a matter of time before Harvick ran out of gas and Logano took over the lead.

Pressuring race leader Kevin Harvick over a 30-lap green-flag run to the finish of Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, Logano made the winning pass through the final two corners at the 2.45-mile road course as Harvick ran out of fuel in Turn 6. “But what we need to do is just run a solid race, and if we’ve got some good pace we’ll get there”. No. 911 Porsche North America teammates Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy claimed their second consecutive GT Le Mans class victory, and Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen won the GT Daytona class in the No. 33 Dodge Viper. Kyle Busch cracked the top 30 of the point standings with his second-place finish, which puts him in the Chase.

The rest of the top five yesterday at Watkins Glen were Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch.

By the final lap, Harvick was still in the lead with Logano on his bumper and Busch a distant third. “Hopefully we’re saving that up for the last 10 weeks [of the Chase]”. If the opportunity is there, he or she is going to go out there to do whatever they can to get the win. The 29-year-old Johnson has 62½ sacks during his eight seasons with the Panthers, including at least 8½ sacks in each of the past five seasons.

AJ Allmendinger: He started as the pole victor, but he lost lots of track position with about 40 laps left when his auto wouldn’t restart.

“And Michigan; there were times at Indianapolis when we were really quick with that (high-drag) package”. That’s the only way we’ll go into the Chase. “The caution laps helped”. Happy to get to race here today.

Seven caution flags slowed the race for 20 laps. What in the world? On Saturday, the second-tier Xfinity Series will hold a non-companion event at Mid-Ohio, the second leg of that category’s brief three-race season of road racing.

“Points are points”, Stevens said. “I thought I was fast enough to catch the 22, but it just wasn’t meant to be”. So many people can be so much more aggressive on their pit calls because they’re locked in.

“You’ve got to watch your back all the time”.

The Sunday race proved tough for many previous WGI winners. “But I’m happy the vehicle was fast”.

Just like the Sprint Cup race last week at Pocono, this race came down to fuel mileage. That absence required him to apply for a waiver to make the Chase, which NASCAR granted provided Busch score a win and finish 30th or better in the standings.

“There really wasn’t any discussion (about strategy)”, Logano said.

“It’s fun being in a situation to go for it like that”, Childers said. But on the other hand, I’m surprised we made it that far. We couldn’t afford to run out of gas.

“It ” s going to be close”, Harvick told his crew. “I didn’t think that would happen, but it showed a lot of strength in our race vehicle”. Logano crew chief Todd Gordon doesn’t totally know what wrinkle the new package will throw into things.

Coach Ron Rivera didn’t know the specifics, but said Sunday that he doesn’t believe the injury is serious.
