In an interview with United States music business publication Billboard in June, The Edge said the band were “still busting our ass” to release the new album this year.
“It’s not finished yet but you will like it”, he said.
U2 have announced a new album and accompanying world tour. “The second part of the tour is for 2017”, he continued.
Based on all the information available, it is thought that the Songs of Experience album may still be set for release in 2016, but a 2017 release is more probable.
The edge revealed that the band have 50 songs ready which they are narrowing down for inclusion on the album, while Bono added that he thinks this is his best lyrical output- in sometime.
And the group’s bassist, 56-year-old Adam Clayton has promised fans can get their hands on the record “soon, in the next six months”.
