Earnhardt to miss 2+ more races because of concussion

“But at the same time if he’s not, I feel like each time I’m in the vehicle I’ll be more confident and comfortable to get better results”.

“I commend Dale Jr. for saying hey I’m going to donate my brain to science and try to help with head injuries”. I’ll worry about that when I’m well. So my doctor wants me to expose myself to that. “I was pretty happy to see the race end”.

University of Pittsburgh doctors tell Earnhardt three weeks is a short time with his concussion symptoms, but they are treatable.

He continues to recover from a concussion his doctors believe he received in a wreck in June at MI. “I didn’t feel anything that next week”. When I sit on my couch, I feel really good. The symptoms came on gradually following that event, and Earnhardt at first thought it was an inner-ear infection. I didn’t know what was wrong with me and why this came out of nowhere. Earnhardt said Monday that he is still having balance problems and gaze stabilization issues.

“Anywhere you go with a lobby and a lot of movement and chatter and things happening – you’re in motion, you’re observing a lot of different things”, Earnhardt said. “The eye issues with the stability, I never had it before”. It didn’t begin at the event.

“I don’t know what [my situation] tells me about how long this process is going to be”, Earnhardt said. “I felt like I had a good understanding of dealing with concussions in the past, but this certainly is a new one”.

Jeff Gordon will continue to pilot the No. 88 vehicle in his absence and will climb behind the wheel for the third consecutive race on Sunday.

He said on his “The Dale Jr”.

“I’ve not had a concussion where you didn’t immediately feel effects”.

“I will be here as long as they need me”, Gordon said. “There’s days you’re frustrated”. That often leaves him impatient and frustrated, eager to return to the sport he loves.

“I didn’t think I had anxiety in my life”, Earnhardt said. “We’ll keep our focus on that and let the doctors guide us”.

“So every time I get checked out we’ll treat it accordingly”.

This time around, though, his experiences have been different, and that has had the driver concerned.
