Donald Trump ends standoff with Ryan, strains to unite GOP
Donald Trump reversed course on Friday, August 5 (Saturday, August 6 in the Philippines) and endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan for re-election, seeking to end deep divisions within the Republican Party and stem his presidential campaign’s bleeding after several self-inflicted wounds.

Ryan, like other top Wisconsin Republicans, did not attend Trump’s evening appearance in their state.
“In our shared mission to make America great again, I support and endorse our Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan” Trump told supporters at a rally at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay, Wis. “Paul Ryan”.
It is an unusual gesture for Mr Trump, who is known for his refusal to admit mistakes and his tendency to escalate matters when he is under attack. His timing was a bit curious, competing with the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) for reelection. “But we will disagree as friends and never stop working together toward victory”.
“I may have short-circuited, and for that I will try to clarify”, Mrs Clinton said, though still insisting she “never sent or received anything that was marked classified”.
On Wednesday morning ABC News broke a story saying that senior RNC officials were actually considering a back-up plan if Trump were to drop out of the race, supposedly a “just in case” measure in response to the nominee’s erratic behavior.
Wisconsin governor Scott Walker also skipped the evening rally, preferring to attend an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner. Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos offered a blunt message ahead of the presidential nominee’s arrival.
The tension between the Republican heavyweights complicates Trump’s push to compete in Wisconsin, a state that hasn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1984.
After pointedly declining to do so earlier this week and being drubbed by Wisconsin Republicans, Trump endorsed Ryan as the Janesville Republican goes into a primary Tuesday with businessman Paul Nehlen. “This is one of the most important elections in my lifetime”, Trump said at Friday’s rally in Green Bay.
“There’s nothing like winning to change minds”, Clinton said, adding that the “political landscape” favors passage of the long-shelved legislation.
“She’s really pretty close to unhinged, and you’ve seen it, you’ve seen it a couple times. and she’s like an unbalanced person”, Trump said, as the crowd raucously shouted, “Lock her up!”
About 42 percent of likely voters favoured Clinton, to Trump’s 39 percent, according to the July 31-Aug.
Clinton sought to take advantage of Trump’s dip in the polls at a conference of minority journalists in Washington, where she pledged an all-out fight for comprehensive immigration reform if she wins in November. “I will stand up and call him out on that”, she asserted. “It doesn’t make me feel good when people say those things”.
Clinton had pulled well ahead of Trump on the heels of the Democratic National Convention last week, where she became the first woman to accept the USA presidential nomination from a major political party.
Yet Trump’s own gaffes have largely overshadowed Clinton’s problems as the Democrats work to recover from a bruising primary election season.
Complicating the Republican Party’s 2016 challenge are fresh signs the nation’s economy is strengthening under a Democratic president.
“This is not the U.S. Constitution”, said Ryan.
Trump also announced a new advisory team to help guide him on economic policy.

Trump’s campaign said his economic advisory panel included former steel executive Dan DiMicco; tobacco company Vector Group Ltd President and CEO Howard Lorber; and Trump campaign finance chairman and investment manager Steven Mnuchin.
