The 35-year-old Victoria’s Secret Angel was thrilled she got to do her bit by lighting the flaming-cauldron in Praça Mauá in the Olympic Boulevard in Rio de Janeiro before the relay continued through to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue.
A few days ago, Alli Simpson and her brother Cody Simpson hopped on a plane to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics!
The launch of the summer games will feature a number of pop stars and celebrities, including award-winning singers Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, but one national treasure has pulled out of the event – soccer legend Pele is too sick to attend.
Pele was quoted as saying he had been invited to light the cauldron but said in a statement Friday he had to pass owing to recent surgery. “Only God is more important than my health”.
She added, “An absolutely breathtaking honor – thank you @cocacola & to anyone & everyone who helped make this possible – my life has changed, this will stay with me forever! And I’ve always respected those who believe in me”.
