Over 700 stray dogs poisoned in Pakistan’s city Karachi

Numerous roads of the metropolis remained flooded and several areas were without electricity as monsoon showers hit the city for second consecutive day early on Saturday.

The high-tension lines of K-Electric tripped which resulted in the closure of 21 grid stations and 650 feeds after which around sixty percent of the city plunged into darkness.

Meantime, various important thoroughfares witnessed massive gridlock as traffic signals ceased function amidst rains.

Traffic flow was reportedly affected in different parts of the metropolis which created severe traffic jam. This contradicts the claims by K-Electric that electricity had been restored to most parts of the city.

Sharea Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Bilawal Chowrangi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, DHA, Karsaz, University Road, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Bath Island were some of the flooded areas.

Areas that are reported without power supply include FB Area, Defence, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Orangi and Gulistan Johar among others.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited Karachi today to personally monitor conditions of the city after heavy rains.

The heavy to light rain spell, that started Friday evening, is likely to continue intermittently till Saturday night, the Met Office added. He also asked the relevant authorities to ensure that rain water was drained out within the shortest-possible time.
