Jamie Vardy; Rejecting Arsenal was so easy

“I’ve always said the brotherhood at Leicester is unbelievable”, Vardy told The Sun on Sunday.

Vardy’s re-signing was a huge boost for Leicester, who have also given captain Wes Morgan a new deal.

Claudio Ranieri does not expect Jamie Vardy to be fit before the Community Shield.

The 29-year-old striker added that he still has “unfinished business” with his current club and EPL champions, Leicester City.

However Vardy, who was away on global duty with England at Euro 2016 at the time, turned down the chance to join the Gunners and instead committed his future to the Premier League champions by signing a new four-year deal.

But Vardy said that he didn’t want to leave the camaraderie and sprit of the City camp behind.

When asked if he’d even had direct contact with the Gunners, he replied categorically: “I was away with England. No”.

Vardy, whose rise from non-League prospect to senior global striker translated to one of football’s great underdog stories last term, scored 24 goals in 34 league appearances.

Thierry Henry was one of many pundits who said that Vardy should not think twice if a club of Arsenal’s pedigree came knocking. That’s what I want to be a part of and I’m happy that I signed.

The England worldwide said: “It [Mahrez signing a new deal] would be brilliant for the club, but like you say it is nothing to do with me”.

The Foxes have already lost N’Golo Kante to Chelsea, and Vardy isn’t keen on putting pressure on Mahrez to stay with him as ultimately it’s the Algerian international’s decision to make.
