KM Mani Snaps Ties With UDF in Kerala, Won’t Join LDF

Interestingly, the veteran leader made the announcement at the inaugural function of the KC (M) two-day leadership camp in the presence of party stalwarts. We should have taken this decision earlier. I don’t know why Mani is saying that the UDF has cheated him. “We have received only insults and humiliations from the Congress”, said Mani, a former finance minister who was forced to resign over the bar bribery scam past year.

Mani said his party won’t create “a crisis in governance” in local bodies.

No one can destroy the UDF, he said. The congress will respond after Mani announces his final decision, he said.

BJP state President Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the doors of NDA were always open to those coming out of UDF or LDF. Leaders of allied parties have been informed about it, he said.

The Congress worked for the defeat of the party in Tiruvalla, Ettumanoor, and Poonjar constituencies in the Assembly polls.

Congress leaders did not even speak against George during election campaigning, KC (M) charged. Mani has not levelled any complaint neither in the congress nor in the UDF. “They will have to face the consequences”, Chennithala retorted on Sunday. Inaugurating a crucial two-day meeting of the party which would decide its future course of action inthe backdrop of frictions in the ties with Congress, he said KC-M had received only “insults and humiliations” from the Congress.

He said his party was not aligning with the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Congress leaders in the state have been seeking to mollify Mani with statements that KC (M) was an integral part of the front.

Subsequently, Congress had deputed former chief minister Oommen Chandy to hold talks with Mani to iron out differences.

The KC (M) was going through a crucial phase, but the party was strong enough to stand alone politically, he had said.

The hostility between the Kerala Congress (M) and the Indian National Congress had been growing in the past few months after KM Mani was forced to resign as the Finance Minister in the run up to elections. Not only that, they concurred with the party brass’ view that the Congress had started taking the KC (M) for granted.
