Mosquitoes that can carry the Zika virus has been found in 12 California counties, but the California Department of Public Health has no evidence that these mosquitoes are transmitting the Zika virus in the state.

Although Zika can be spread through sex, it is mostly spread by the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito – Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus – and the best way to prevent Zika is to prevent mosquito bites, according to the CDC.
In fact, of the 422 Zika cases in Florida overall, 55 involve pregnant women. Last week, Sacramento County reported its first case of Zika virus, also transmitted during travel.

The current Zika outbreak was first detected previous year in Brazil, where it has been linked to more than 1,700 cases of microcephaly, a birth defect marked by small head size that can lead to severe developmental problems in babies.
“Summer is in full swing and we continue to read reports of pregnant women exposed to the Zika virus”, Brown said.
Frieden said he was impressed “with how intensive” the state and Miami-Dade’s efforts have been in response to the outbreak.

Earlier this week, Frieden told reporters he was concerned that boots-on-the-ground mosquito control had not been as effective as expected-possibly because of insecticide resistance.

Zika cases in New Hampshire are all people who went to an affected zone or who had sexual content with someone who did. Both women got infected when they traveled overseas. “If they don’t, we’re gonna fund it”, said Gov. Scott.
