Hanigan was hit by a pitch on the left ankle while catching Thursday night against Seattle. The 35-year-old has hit just.158/.216/.221 in 95 at-bats this season. It was clear something was going to happen with Hanigan after the Red Sox claimed Bryan Holaday off waivers. Holaday was then dealt to the Texas Rangers for Myles Jaye and Bobby Wilson and hit.238 in 30 games, while hitting two home runs and driving in 13 runs. The lefty appeared in 34 games for the Red Sox, totaling a 3.77 ERA and.260 batting average against. Wilson was claimed by the Red Sox division rival Tampa Bay Rays yesterday.
