D.A.: Family of five found dead in Pennsylvania home

Authorities say an apparent “murder/suicide” note was found in a Pennsylvania home where a couple and their three children were found dead of gunshot wounds. After unsuccessful attempts to contact her, the family member contacted the police.

Police cordoned off a Sinking Spring, Pa., home after finding a family of five dead inside.. The other children’s ages have not been released. A handgun was found near one of the adults.

District Attorney John Adams told the Reading Eagle that everyone died of gunshot wounds. She said parents who have chronically ill children and suffer from PTSD are not being discussed or studied as much as they should be.

“Someone else’s child died so that my child could live”, Megan Short told the Reading Eagle during a November 2014 profile.

Neighbors drawn to the police activity and relatives learning of the deaths gathered outside the home six miles west of Reading and waited for police to remove the bodies late Saturday, according to WFMZ-TV.

In 2015, the New York Times published a story on the family and the difficulty in getting drugs needed for the little girl so she wouldn’t reject the heart. It detailed the family’s struggles with specialty pharmacies and obtaining anti-rejection medication for Willow.The investigation is ongoing.
