Mets says golf didn’t cause Cespedes to go on DL

The MLB Network’s Kevin Millar uploaded a picture of himself with Cespedes after a round of golf on Wednesday afternoon, hours before Cespedes would leave a game in the ninth inning after the quad issue flared up.

With his win on Thursday, Colon became the first player to win a Subway Series game for both the Mets and the Yankees. The last time the Mets seemed headed for a run that resembled anything from the last two months of 2015 was June 30-July 7 when they won seven of eight to get to 47-38 and three games out of first place.

“There’s a relationship and I truly care about him”. I suppose it’s possible that Rodriguez puts together a couple of hot weeks because he still knows what he’s doing out there, but I wouldn’t really bet much on it either.

De Aza started in center field after the Mets put slugging outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on the disabled list and De Aza made the defensive play of the night.

Jay Bruce hit a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the fifth inning and the Mets capped another frustrating day of injury news with a 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. But let’s face it: You play golf during the day and then go out injured in the evening, it’s a bad visual. Alderson added that he has come to a “mutual agreement” with Cespedes’ representatives that the outfielder will refrain from golfing, at least for the time period when it could be viewed negatively by the public. “We’re not going to mistake that”, Terry Collins said before the game. Alderson said team doctors can not say golf made the injury worse, but the GM acknowledged it comes off looking poor.

Relegated mostly to a pinch-hitting role, Ichiro, the former Mariner great, is 0 for his past 10 at the plate and remains stuck on 2,998 major-league hits – two shy of the milestone. He now will take the turn of departed Ivan Nova and start Tuesday at Boston. Chad Green moved into Nova’s slot initially and pitched poorly Wednesday night against the Mets.

Mets: 1B Lucas Duda, sidelined since May 20 because of a stress fracture in his lower back, had a flare-up of back pain during workouts last week and likely will not play again this season, according to GM Sandy Alderson.

We moderate comments. Our goal is to provide substantive commentary for a general readership. There will always be “bad optics” when a team is struggling like the Mets have of late, and they’re often the exact same things that earn teams credit when they’re winning. Because of the volume of reader comments, we can not review individual moderation decisions with readers. “But I think his at-bats have been OK”.
