Parents speak out for justice in killing of NYC runner

“It’s just heartbreaking”, said one woman. She was a world traveler and aspiring writer, and on her blog, she wrote about her life: “It’s chaotic and unpredictable, but I do believe that on some days, it’s quite attractive, in all its poetic little tragedies”.

Philip and Cathie Vetrano thanked the police for their tireless efforts to find their daughter’s killer.. She was lying face down in tall weeds, about 15 feet from a bike path.

An avid runner, Vetrano went out Tuesday evening alone in the marshy woods behind her house, on trails she frequented with her father, police said.

Vetrano didn’t return on time and didn’t answer her father’s phone calls, so he contacted a police commander neighbor, who called 911.

Vetrano also said that “my daughter was a force to be reckoned with, and I guarantee you, you motherf-ker, you will be reckoning with that force not only for the rest of your pathetic life – but for the rest of eternity as you burn in hell”.

Her body was found around 9 p.m. that night by her father about 14 blocks from her home. The police announced a $10,000 reward for information regarding the investigation, although they believe a stranger was responsible for the rape and homicide.

NY police are searching for the killer. Authorities also interviewed her ex-boyfriend, according to the Post but ruled him out as a suspect.

“That’s why we have God”, said Philip Vetrano.

Boyce told reporters on Thursday: “Right now, we think it’s random, so we don’t think it’s anybody in her life that’s created this”.

Funeral services for Vetrano will be held at noon Saturday in Queens, preceded by a Friday wake. Vetrano was found dead in Spring Creek Park, a federal park property. “I said to him, ‘Phil, for the first time, I don’t know what to say.’ He says, ‘You can’t say anything'”.

Her daughter’s body was found late Tuesday night in a recreation area adjacent to her home in the Howard Beach section of Queens. She was face down with her teeth broken, scrapes on her legs and her sports bra and shorts pulled down, sources said. After she’d been gone longer than usual her parents tried calling her phone.

Vetrano was reported missing just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and her body was recovered shortly before 11 p.m. Officers also used a 360-degree camera to photograph the route that Vetrano is believed to have traveled during her jog.

But the 30-year-old was running alone Tuesday evening and didn’t come home, NY police said. “Always going for a walk, riding her bicycle, I tell her to go with friends”. “She was very profound in the way she’d speak – people would pay attention”.
