Trump throws support behind Ryan, McCain

Meanwhile, Ryan was initially hesitant to endorse Trump for the White House but later did so after meeting him in Washington.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump shakes hands with supporters during a campaign rally, Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, in Green Bay, Wis. “As president I will need a Republican Senate and House to accomplish all of the changes I want to make”. Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire, and John McCain, Arizona, in an apparent effort to create party unity with the general election less than 100 days away.

With Ryan specifically, Trump claimed he was “not quite there yet”, directly mimicking Ryan’s own turn of phrase in advance of endorsing Trump.

He said in the same interview that Mr McCain had not done enough for veterans and criticised Ms Ayotte for distancing herself from him during the campaign. “You tell me. Are these people that should be representing us, okay?”

“He has broken our heart doing this tonight”, said Trump supporter Sue Payne, a conservative activist working to defeat Mr. Ryan. He said “Donald Trump and I are standing shoulder to shoulder to say to the American people, ‘We can be strong again'”.

Lately, Trump’s campaign speeches have been more stream of consciousness centered rather than offering specifics about their platform.

The real estate mogul and former reality television star was caught up for days in a public spat with the parents of a Muslim American soldier killed in Iraq.

Ryan said he “rejects” any religious test for entering the country – a clear jab at one of Trump’s evolving immigration proposals – and that “Captain Khan was one such courageous example” of Muslim-Americans who have “served valiantly in our military and made the ultimate sacrifice”. “I also fully support and endorse Sen”.

“And we may disagree on a couple of things, but mostly we agree, and we’re gonna get it done”.

Earlier this week, Trump criticized all three high-profile lawmakers, suggesting he felt no obligation to endorse despite leading their party.

In the past, Mr Trump questioned Mr McCain’s status as a war hero, and that he “should have done a much better job for the vets”.

“Paul Ryan was grown in a petri dish in D.C. He is absolutely an open borders guy, through and through”, Nehlen said. Trump has called the payment a ransom, charges dismissed by President Barack Obama and other Democrats.

The move comes toward the end of a tumultuous week for Trump’s campaign – one in which his reluctance to support Ryan’s re-election bid reportedly angered GOP leaders. “But I will do this because I feel I have to in order to defend Republicans and our principles so that people don’t make the mistake of thinking we think like that”.
