Obama and the $400 million delivered to Iran (2 letters)

At two rallies, Trump claimed that a video exists of a USA plane bringing Iran $400 million, and that he has seen it. He repeated this claim even after his own campaign denied its validity.

Saeed Abedini said on the August 4 broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan” that on the night in January he was freed, his Iranian captors told him they were waiting on another plane to arrive before letting him go.

Trump first made the claim that he had seen such footage of a “top secret” location on Wednesday, during a campaign event in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Donald Trump acknowledged Friday that the videotape he has been talking about over the last couple of days is of American prisoners being freed from Iran and not of a $400 million cash payment from the U.S.as he had described it.

The video Trump refers to was reportedly recorded January 17 in Geneva when three Americans were released from prison in Tehran, Iran. He said the video was purposely released by the Iranians to “embarrass our country and … our president”.

But Trump’s stories involving Muslims stand out in part because of 1) how utterly divorced from the available evidence they are, and 2) how much he keeps repeating them even after it’s pointed out that they have no basis in reality. “Not only have they taken the sanctions off of Iran’s radical revolutionary Islamic regime which funds terrorists all around the world and calls for the destruction of both the United States and our closest ally Israel, the administration now reportedly provides a cash incentive to hold American citizens hostage”. You saw that, with the plane coming in. With the airplane coming in?

Obama said that at the time his administration had explained that Iran had taken claims before an global tribunal and, because of litigation risks, the United States made a $1.7 billion settlement with the country to resolve a decades-old arms deal dispute following legal advice and suggestions. “We announced (it) to all of you”.

“Iran provided all of that footage, the tape, of taking that money off that airplane, right? I don’t know how anybody can seriously accept that and the president tells us with a straight face: ‘Well, they’re not connected, ‘” King says.

US President Barack Obama talks about the war on terrorism and efforts to degrade and destroy the IS group.

‘I mean, who would ever think that they would be taking all of this money off of the plane, and then providing us with the tape?’ the Republican presidential nominee asked. They want to embarrass our country.

‘It’s only for one reason, and it’s very, very sad’.

Trump has been repeatedly challenged on outlandish assertions he has made throughout his campaign, from his descriptions of – also nonexistent – television footage of Middle eastern immigrants celebrating in New Jersey as the twin towers fell on 9/11 to his allegations that rival Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
