An absolute dynasty, Korea has won every gold medal since the team competition became an Olympic event in 1988.

When asked about the secret to her success with the bow and arrow, the 28-year-old said: “When it’s time for me to sleep, I always think about archery”.

The trio of Ki Bo-bae, Choi Mi-sun and Chang Hye-jin were unflappable on a windy day at the Sambodromo, shooting brilliantly to rout their opponents 5-1 and send Korean fans in the terraces into raptures.

Since the event was introduced back at Seoul 1988, the South Korean team have yet to lose a match.

With two gold medals, along with two silver and a bronze, South Korea remains fourth in the medal standings as of 8 a.m. Monday in Korean time, trailing Australia, Italy and China.

“That is why I can stay on top”.

Russian Federation also had a bye in the first round before matching up with India and Deepika Kumari – potential medal contenders in both the team and individual competitions – in the quarterfinals.

With the conclusion of the team events at the 2016 Rio Olympics, all archers will now turn their attention to bringing home an individual medal for the next six days.

For Ki, the moment of victory was made even sweeter as she shot four ideal scores, which included the victor.
