Police identify 4 killed in Adirondack Mountains plane crash

At this time, the identities of the people who perished in the crash have not been released, and officials do not know what caused the plane to go down. The statement reads in part: “there has been a tremendous outpouring of love from many communities, and it has brought us great comfort in our loss”. State police say Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were enroute.

FAA officials report that the cause of the crash is unknown and that no distress call was received before the crash. State Police Aviation found the crashed plane about one half mile to the northwest of the airport. NTSB spokespeople didn’t immediately respond to messages Saturday morning.

Robert Gretz, a senior air safety investigator with the NTSB, says the plane crashed shortly after take-off and burst into flames. Mrs. Stoler also worked as a secretary in our high school counseling office until her retirement in 2009.

“We found [the plane] together in the sense that it wasn’t strewn out over hundreds of yards”, Gretz said. At around 6:30 p.m. both state police in Ray Brook and the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department were notified and responded to the scene. It could take ten days before a preliminary report is complete.

The regional airport is located in Northern New York in the Adirondacks. He didn’t know whether the plane was taking off or landing when it went down. Franklin County Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill told AP that the plane “came down in a fairly vertical position”, rather than gliding.

New York State Police say Sunday the victims were two couples who were longtime friends.

“It crashed into a heavily wooded area, about three-quarters of a mile northwest of the airport”, Knudson said.
