Vermont receives $200000 from CDC to help fight Zika
Health department officials said that samples have been sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the preliminary diagnosis.

Yesterday, aerial spraying of pesticide was started in Miami as way to cut down the mosquito population further. Rick Scott said active infections have been halted in a 10-block area of the district, the news service reported.
Officials said there have been six laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus in the state. This is the first time the CDC has warned people not to travel to an American neighborhood for fear of obtaining an infectious disease.
The mosquito-borne illness, which can cause severe birth defects, including stunted heads.
“[The type of mosquito that carries Zika] can’t actually survive the winters here in Vermont”, Tompkins said.
“We will continue working closely with our federal, state and local partners to ensure consistent reporting of potential cases and unity of effort in reducing the virus’ impact on local communities”, the statement said. The virus can be transmitted sexually and travelers returning from countries where Zika is common are encouraged to use condoms.
The health department emphasized that it still believes the only place with ongoing Zika infection is a square-mile area in northern Miami.
