Almost half of candidates fail May/June WASSCE but WAEC says it’s cheerful
The examinations body announced that it withheld the results of 137,295 candidates, representing 8.89 per cent of those who took the examinations.

The West African Examinations Council has officially announced the release of the May/June 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Mr. Olutise I. Adenipekun, made the announcement during a media briefing at the council head office Yaba on Thursday.
When compared with the 2015 result where 38.68 percent of candidates bagged five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, there was positive improvement of 14 percent.
The figures represent an increase from the statistics of the last two years.
The Head of Office added that out of the total number of the candidates that sat for the examination, 1,393,907 candidates had their results fully released.
He further stated that candidates will be able to check their results on the Council’s website within the next 24 hours.
She disclosed that during the recent exams, examiners seized a total of 7,800 test questionnaires from students caught in examination malpractice from various schools.
“A total of 1,014,573 candidates, representing 65.70% obtained six credits and above, 1,167,484 candidates, representing 75.60& obtained five credits and above”.
1,370,049 candidates, representing 88.72% obtained credit and above in three subjects, 1,438,679 candidates, representing 93.16% obtained credit and above in two subjects, ” he added.

“Our doors are open for negotiations so that we can reach an agreement and then release the results in order not to jeopardize the future of our children”.
